Case Study: Solving a Blocked Toilet in Caves Beach for Ian

At Reactive Plumbing & Electrical, we pride ourselves on providing top-notch plumbing and electrical services to our clients. Our team of highly skilled technicians are always ready to tackle any job, big or small. Recently, we received a call from Ian in Caves Beach (2281) who was experiencing issues with his toilet being constantly blocked.

How They Found Us

Ian found us through our Newcastle Magnet ad and decided to give us a call when he needed help with his plumbing issue. We were happy to assist him and sent out one of our experienced service technicians, Josh, to take care of the job.

The Job Description & Solution

Upon arrival at Ian’s home, Josh conducted an initial inspection using a CCTV camera from the shaft leading upstream. However, this did not provide access to the blockage. Next, he attempted accessing it through the vent pipe but still could not reach it despite seeing tree roots coming from the toilet area.

After further investigation using a jet blast and CCTV camera inspection inside the toilet itself, Josh discovered that there were two major issues causing the blockage. The first issue was a crack in the toilet junction located under the house slab which allowed tree roots to enter and clog up the system. The second issue was a collapsed sewer junction outside under concrete next to hot water system.

We provided Ian with a quote outlining all necessary repairs for both issues and he opted to proceed with our recommended solution:

  • Arrive onsite with required equipment
  • Review dial before you dig plans
  • Prepare the work area
  • Carry out concrete cutting of slab next to hot water system
  • Hand excavate down to collapsed sewer junction
  • Expose sewer pipework
  • Carry out a sectional junction reline on toilet junction located under house slab (100mm)
  • Cut and remove all failed external pipework
  • Rebuild new PVC sewer pipe with access points available at surface level
