Case Study: Resolving a Blocked Drain for Elizabeth in Mermaid Waters
Introduction: Elizabeth, a resident of Mermaid Waters (4218), recently found herself dealing with a blocked drain at her property. After trying to resolve the issue on her own without success, she decided to seek professional help and came across Reactive Plumbing & Electrical through our VIP Member ad.
Assigned Technician: Joshua was assigned to the job due to his expertise in handling drainage issues. With years of experience under his belt, he was well-equipped to tackle any challenge that came his way.
The Job Description & Solution: Upon arrival at Elizabeth’s property, Joshua conducted thorough tests and discovered that the ORG (overflow relief gully) was overflowing. Despite attempting to locate an inspection opening for access, it proved unsuccessful. As a result, they had no choice but to remove the existing toilet in the downstairs bathroom and carry out a high-pressure water jet blast which successfully restored flow.
Further investigations using CCTV drain camera revealed tree roots in the sewer system as the root cause of the blockage. We presented Elizabeth with various options and she chose to proceed with our recommended scope of work which included:
- Arriving onsite with necessary equipment
- Hand excavating approximately 1M deep in marked location to expose 100mm PVC pipe
- Cutting into existing pipework and installing directional inspection openings brought up to surface level
- Filling pipework back up using drainage gravel
- Picote sanding pipework in preparation for reline
- Carrying out a 9M pipe reline on clay pipework all the way up until council connection
- Allowing the reline to cure
- Conducting a CCTV drain inspection of the reline and saving it to job file
- Cutting x2 junctions using robot cutter
- Reinstalling the previously removed toilet suite for rodding access and testing for leaks
- Cleaning up the site afterwards.
