Case Study: Solving a Hidden Leak in Mermaid Waters

Graham from Mermaid Waters Finds Us Through Gold Coast Magnet Ad

Graham, a homeowner in the suburb of Mermaid Waters (4218), was facing an unexpected and frustrating problem – a hidden water leak. After noticing an increase in his water bill, Graham did some investigating and discovered that there was a leak somewhere on his property. Unsure of how to locate and fix the issue himself, he turned to Reactive Plumbing & Electrical for help.

After seeing our ad in the local Gold Coast Magnet publication, Graham decided to give us a call. He was impressed by our reputation as top-notch plumbers on the Gold Coast and felt confident that we could solve his problem.

Jess is Assigned as Technician for Leak Detection Job

Upon receiving Graham’s call, we quickly dispatched one of our experienced service technicians – Jess – to assess the situation at Graham’s property. With her expertise in leak detection and repair, Jess was well-equipped to handle this job.

The Job Description & Solution: Isolating the Main Water Supply & Repairing Burst Pipe

Jess arrived at Graham’s property with all necessary materials including tools, skip bin, wheelbarrow, concrete saws and jackhammers. She began by isolating the main water supply and draining down the system before inducing nitrogen into the waterline.

Using specialized equipment and techniques, Jess located the hidden leak underneath steps at the rear of Graham’s property. It was determined that it had been concealed on one of the main branches and could not be detected by eye.

To repair this burst pipe on Graham’s domestic cold water supply line with a 10-year warranty guarantee, Jess dismantled part of his stairs to access it. She then cut through concrete to expose where repairs were needed before digging trenches from one side of the steps to the other.

Following current national and municipal regulations, Jess conducted the repair using appropriate fittings. She then pressure tested the main line to ensure no further leaks existed before backfilling with sand and pouring concrete for a secure landing.

As an added measure, Jess installed a pressure regulating device on Graham’s meter to mitigate any fluctuations in water pressure and reduce wear on plumbing fixtures. A temperature and pressure relief valve was also installed on his hot water system as a complementary safety feature.
