Karen, a resident of Caves Beach (2281), was experiencing a smelly drain and low house pressure. She found us through our Newcastle Magnet ad and reached out to Reactive Plumbing & Electrical for help.

Upon receiving Karen’s call, we assigned our experienced technician, Adam, to the job. With years of experience in plumbing services, we knew he would be able to provide an effective solution for Karen’s problem.
The Job Description & Solution
Adam attended Karen’s site to address the smelly drain and low house pressure issues. He began by inspecting all waste in the bathroom and found that the floor waste in the toilet was dry and needed water. Additionally, he discovered that the waste in the kitchen was filled with soap scum and grease.
To tackle this issue, Adam used a hand plunger to clean out the shower drain. This helped clear any blockages causing the unpleasant smell from coming up through the drains.
In addition to addressing the smelly drain issue, Adam also inspected Karen’s water pressure. To his surprise, he found it to be too high at 600kpa when it should ideally be around 500kpa. High water pressure can cause damage to pipes over time if left unchecked.
To solve this problem as well as prevent future damage, Adam gave Karen an option to replace her prv (pressure reducing valve) on her meter. After discussing with her about potential risks of not replacing it now or later down-the-line she decided she wanted peace-of-mind knowing everything is working correctly so went ahead with replacement today.
Adam supplied and installed a new prv on the meter with a 3-year warranty. This not only solved Karen’s low house pressure issue but also ensured that her pipes would be protected from potential damage caused by high water pressure in the future.
